Peppermint (Mentha piperita) is an herb that belongs in the mint family. Along with other well-known mints, peppermint has been reviewed by many organizations such as the NIH (National Institute of Health).
Peppermint’s cultivation goes back as far 1500 BC; its uses have been traced back to Greek, Chinese, and Japanese medicines. In Ancient Egypt, it was dried and placed in the tombs of pharaohs so they would awake to calming fragrances. Despite that long history, peppermint was not officially recognized as a distinct mint until the 1700s.
Peppermint’s essential oils Menthol and Menthone are known to reduce pain, energize, and are thought to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria.

When you apply tetraVIV you’ll notice (along with the quick reduction in pain and itch), it’s non-medicinal taste and pleasant aroma. And that’s a pretty good thing when treating a cold sore outbreak.
